** THIS COURSE IS NOW APPROVED FOR 3 CM ETHICS CREDITS THROUGH AICP**

For planners, the toughest ethical decisions are often not between good and bad, but between competing goods.  This course will explain the tenets of the AICP Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, and challenge participants to analyze situations, reflect on dilemmas, and apply the code to situations that might arise during the course of their career.

Codes of ethics from other professions will be outlined in an interactive format and how they align with or differ from the AICP Code will be discussed. Participants will also hear from a group of practicing planners with many years of experience as to the practical application of the Code's principles. Spanning the public, private and non-profit sectors, these speakers will provide information with great breadth and depth. Sample situations will be presented to encourage the group to consider the interplay between competing goods and how they choose to respond.

Workshop topics include:

·         Review of the AICP Code of Ethics

·         Analysis of potential ethical challenges

·         Discussion of ethical scenarios

·         Overview of resources for further reflection

Speakers include:

Dr. Bruce Stiftel, FAICP, Director, Georgia Tech School of City and Regional Planning

Gary Cornell, FAICP, Senior Associate, Jordan Jones & Goulding

Marsha Anderson Bomar, President and Founder, Street Smarts, Inc.
